Storyline Minor Overhaul - Update

Hello, hello.

I've made the necessary revisions.  The weird complication was with the wiki itself not allowing me to make the edits reflect into the wiki page itself.  Thus, I have a doc file with the revisions and added 2 new summaries in the Bulletin Board thread.  Once this set of 4 are done, we are ready to do the Westrom events~.

No rush on your end Trass.  Take your time : )

@Osric: you may want to review the Bulletin Board thread on the meeting of Naraku.  I've added new content to that summary.  Or was that mine to work on?

@All: I've entered in the recruitment of a Blacksmith and Item shop PCs/NPCs during the Naraku intro event.  Something to collab on to determining type of char and if need sprites and face expression sheets made.

Storyline minor overhauls

Yup, with the latest changes while making the dialogues, I began to realize how confusing some of the storyline has become.  Primarily specific chars at specific times.  So, I'll be messing around the storyline wiki page in the next few days making corrections before posting more summaries into the Dialogue bulletin board thread.  :3

I've also been playing other games for any new and exciting storyline mechanics, POVs, etc.  Lately been playing some Agarest War Zero, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (waiting for Skyrim to come out this Nov. *w*), Starcraft 2, and the free trial version of RIFT.  The CP system is used in AWZ, though Oblivion is too much of a beast for some of its content, but SC2 and RIFT may provide some situational events that push for dialogue cut-scenes and encounter cut-scenes.

Let's Call It "A Day"

Following Osric's triumph in designing the day symbols, I finished setting up these symbols to automatically appear whenever the day is changed.

Boy, was it tiring. I had a few headaches here and there trying to figure out how to make it works (since I failed like, ten times or so), but yay, nothing can beat the might of the Pepens, so it turned out pretty well in the end.

How did I do it you ask? You sure you wanna know?

I made use of the common events' parallel process. I assigned each days with a specific switch beside the day variable which stores the current day's value. The common event will turn on when the switch for the next day is on, but the common event will not execute its command until the day variable confirms that the day has changed, for example, the symbol for day 3 won't appear unless the day 3 switch is on and the day variable equals to 3. Once the commands have been successfully executed and the symbol for the day appear, the common event turns off its own switch, and turns on the next day's switch so that the next day's common event can wait for the day to change and execute its commands and repeats the process.

Well... yeah. That's basically how I did it. Did you get it? Hopefully you do. If you don't, you're not worthy of being a Pepen!!! Not that I didn't doubt you're a Pepen in the first place anyway, so it doesn't actually matter.

There's another thing, however. This way of doing the day changes will ONLY work IF you start the game from the beginning. I can activate the day change symbol feature in-game using an NPC but that means the player with old savefile will have to come to this NPC and talk to him to activate it. So I made a Shimotsukin in Mt. Gaburiera so the player have to talk to it to activate the sumbols. It was so nonsense. It is not long after that did I realize the nonsenseness of this approach. Why didn't I thought of using the PARALLEL PROCESS like how I do the day changes? So I went and create a new common event that activates when the player's 'day symbol active' switch is off. It simply turns the switch on, and then it will automatically kills itself after doing that since the switch is no longer off (so the common event cannot take any more actions). I might delete this common event when the game's done though (like, 100 years from now? /shot) since it's really not clean and I'm afraid it'll slow down the whole game's process.

...You're following aren't you? Well, are you? I went through all the trouble to write these down to explain it all so you better do! /thrown into the nearest river

You want proof? Here's the proof.

We have Osric's beautiful touches to thank for all of this =w=

On another note, I was thinking it'd be nice to play some kind of SE that differs for each day. Maybe some short melodies? Tell me if anyone have any melodious SE that can be used for the days. And yes, we'll be needing 14 SEs.

If you wanna see the day changing symbol for yourself, you can update the game. I uploaded the symbols just now =w=

A job is done ^^

So, what's this about?
Simple enough... the game has a day system built in, basically the days do pass by, even if they don't change anything story-wise, and each day has a name, like in the real world, and similarly the names come from those of ancient gods, in this case the Wills of Ar Ciel.

But how to make it simple for a player to know what day is it?

Yeah, save points tell you which is the current day but that's hardly enough.
The idea was to come up with something to make it easier... like a symbol for each day, a mark of the patron Will of the day that could make it easy to tell days apart....
And that was actually the first task that I wanted to take upon myself in the development. (did you know that, eh? Eh? XD)

I did come up with something, but I missed the point entirely, after all difficult mandala-like designs weren't going to cut it (even if Saori's work on Salapator's one was still very epic), but as today I can say that my mission is over.

The Wills have their Glyphs!

I'm pretty happy on how they all turned out, and I want to give proper credit in here to ObsidianDawn for having made the GIMP/Photoshop brushes that made it all possible. Without those things I wouldn't have made it, so Trass, remember to make a mention in the credit roll XD

Okay, now that my mission is complete I can go back to my mother planet... /is shot
Just kidding! It's not that easy to get rid of me! ^^

What's the point of knowing what day is it, you ask?
<_<
>_>
Ask to our most gracious Pepen host, will ya? /throws smoke bomb and disappears

Spriting Thread

Kay, as you know, I've splitted my personal thread from the ARM Game related ones.
While it's true that this make it easy as two-way of showing result and get the correction of mistakes and approval when the owner thinks it's perfect... The matter at hand is, the character owner rarely checks Em pheyna... And calling them one by one really consumes energy and effort, due to my net and online time. Could anyone give a solution for this? . ^ . Putting it on Silver Horn got risk they'll be stolen.

Also, I got three skin colors currently for my sprite. They're:
Tan
Slightly tanned
Healthy pale.
Should I add for more? . ^ .
Reply within next three weeks will be appreciated. m(_ _)m

A Midgit Reporting!

*SALUTE*

I'm LD, resident hymn crafter, brainstorm seeder, and all around instigator for all things creative. I'm also currently the temporary brainstormer for the game's Singing Hill theme. Which I will continue to do in the next few days! A midgit promises! D:

Here's to all out future work!

Tackling Mt. G.

It's hard to imagine that we're getting ever so close in conquering the mountain range that has kept the game in central Clesshia for so long.  What adventures await Yura and company over the mountain?  Dangers? Mysteries?  The questions could go on.

To date, the scripted dialogues has Yura and party in Bellus, stuck from a rise in terrorism, causing the Clesshian General, Palsa, to order a lockdown along Clesshia's borders and issue passport checkpoints for travelers til the threat has been contained. And everybody thought they were going to get through Mt. G. finally. :3

Some people suspect the Fumeru Empire north of Mt. G. is behind the recent attacks.  Is it true, or is there something more sinister going on?

How's that for some synopsis? lol.

Trass and I were discussing lately of having a rotation of 1-2 characters locked in the party, until enough gaming dialogue is conveyed where the player has only Yura as the locked character in the party.  This plot device will change how some scenes will occur to keep the gameplay fresher, hopefully.  Also, it helps lvling some chars beyond the 50% rate for not participating in battle for a couple of events you wouldn't think was going to happen.  I can't get anymore blunt with foreshadowing than that, lol.

Who's going to be the next set of characters to be in the rotation, you may ask?  Should I give the answer so quickly? :3

On other news, Osric's done a good job with his first scripted dialogue in the In-Game Dialogue thread for peer-review.  Other than the usual grammar checks (I get hit hard sometimes, lol...I might be lazy or something xD), I'm impressed with his growing dedication to detail of the characters and his willingness to try his own approach to the recipe card-like summaries from the Crafting Dialogue: Bulletin Board thread.  Keep up the good work Osric!  Keep synthesizing, and keep me on my toes too!

Though I do have a curiosity now.  When to get some PC/NPC venders living in A2H?!  Have to ponder on that one a bit more. :3

Palsa, present and accounted for, I think. . .

I'll try to keep up to date with this, as you can see with my own blog, I have a slight habit of neglecting it. ^_^;
Anyway, as it was on the forum, feel free to send me PMs through my ARM account if any help is needed, and I'll try to see what I can do.

Greetings!

Well, I'm here as well... unless I fail Trass' horridly difficult and hideous trials that is.

Okay then, I'm Osric, just your friendly neighbourhood Orc and nothing more, I guess.
So what do I do around here? Hunt for pe... ehm, lots of things, while not anything in particular.
Apart from Synthesis. All the Recipe Cards you'll find in the game are signed by yours truly... but for complaints talk to Trass anyway XD

Apart from that a bit of looping for music, some skits, some singing... what's needed from time to time I guess.
Anyway, mostly boring things, so don't expect to hear much from me.
But I'll be here... lurking in the shadows ^___^

Okay, I guess that's all for now. See ya soon.

Osric

What do you think you're doing? Bow down!

Wooooooooohohohohoho! You think such a measly threat could possibly faze me, Trass? Who do you think gave birth to the Geugo King? Hohoho!

(◕ ◊ ◕) Do you think you are a match for me...?

No?

I didn't think so.

Now, bow down!

/kicked, shot, and strangled with tentacles

Anyway, since I do pretty much nothing for ARM Game besides writing skits no one reads, drawing people that have nothing to do with the main story of the game, and thinking up yaoi situations involving the male characters, my posts will primarily consist of massive images of ARM Game character portrait compilations and any updates or issues Trass, Chaude, and the others have missed.

Basically, you won't see me except in the comments. And here. But don't think you're safe even for a moment. Because I'll always be watching you... always... always... waiting for the moment when your pants are down so I can--

Wait. You aren't a shota. Never mind, I don't have any interest in you. Carry on.

Chaude's Post in Pepen Forest

I shall past your test Trass!  Let me at them!  xD

But really, I'll be talking more about character developments, plot devices and twists, and dialogue writing I would've done for kicks.  Other than that, feel free to talk to me here~.

*Eats his funboon*

My Diary Becomes Our Diary

I initially intended to make this blog as my diary to keep track of things, but when I thought about it, it'd be nice if other staffs can post their thoughts too. So, starting now, this blog will be the diary for all ARM Game development staffs.

I invited Chaude and Ilutiern. But of course, they need to take a test first before they can freely walk around in the Country of Great Pepen. If they are not worthy, they will end up as food for Geugo King. No one wants that, right? So they have to say the vow of Pepeness and engage in a penful atmosphere for a--

Wait what am I talking about.

Tentacles Gonna Tentacule

What? The title is that weird?

Tentacles.

I had so much fun in constructing the Eiji & Giu battle. Especially the tentacles. It only appears once during the whole fight though, but it hits all enemies (It is Giulietta's unique skill). I had Chaude cook up some dialogues for me to throw here and there in the battle, but it didn't look like it was enough. So tried to think up of some by myself. In the end, I almost made Miki a Yandere. It was quite a scary thought... but maybe it's not a bad idea after al-- /thrown into the nearest river

Beside the battle, I tried using a wagon from the XP sprite sheets for the merchant. To do that I had to convert magical energy into something more disposable so I--- I mean convert the sprite from XP form to VX form using photoshop. I don't really get photoshop so it took me a while to get everything done. It was so big it's funny looking at it beside the character sprites. It's unnecessarily bigger than normal people sprites and it's attacking arou- no. It didn't attack anything. Anyway, too bad Pepens couldn't be in the wagon instead.

Randomly, Osric suddenly informed me of a glitch that occurred awkwardly. Sakura was supposed to make a comment, but L-Voss was the one who moved and intended to kill beforehand-- No, he wasn't intending to do anything. It must be my clouded sleepy mind. I haven't slept at all since yesterday orz.

But I fixed it so it should work fine now.

By the way, I just got an idea on how to keep track of things a bit more. I've included a version note in the folder. It has "PEPEN 1.0" written on it. So every time anyone wants to check whether the game's updated/outdated, they can simply take a look for the version in the notepad. I'll raise the number version each time I make updates so the next update will be "PEPEN 1.1".

Sighh... actually I might be able to write more, but I'm just too sleepy to do anything. Believe it or not, before I typed this sentence I randomly wrote "Thanks for everytime stemisap" without my knowing. It's like losing your mind for a second and then get it back. I didn't even realize I was typing so it's perfectly obvious that there's no way for me to understand it. Not only that 'stemisap,' but even by the time I finish writing this sentence, I have already wrote those random meaningless things more than 8 times (Yeah, those nonsense things about magical energy or killing intention were one of those). Uuuu the effects of drowsiness...

Anyway, I guess that's it for today. See you next Pen.

Ar tonelico: A Reyvateil's Melody ~世界ノ願望を満たすように少女は詩を謳う~

Ar tonelico: A Reyvateil's Melody ~世界ノ願望を満たすように少女は詩を謳う~ (Sekai no genbou wo mitasu youni shoujo wa uta wo negau), The girl singing songs with purpose of the fulfillment of everyone's wishes, shortened as ARM: Game is a 2-D RPG-game created using RPGMakerVX produced by the fellow ARM community. The game was originally graphed from Lazy's fanfiction where ilutiern attempted to make the doujin whereas I attempted to make the game. ARM: Game has a wide-range of characters with different personalities respectfully owed by their creators, and races from humans, reyvateils, aliens, witches, mystics, and (one) divine-god like entities. The game also consists a huge variety of CG's and music beautifully drawn and sung by the artists in the Silver Horn section.

The story begins in the main character (Yura)'s home returning from school. After a eerie conversation with his mother; who ends up missing the following day, he's sucked into another dimension the following day. The setting for the game is Yura wandering around a strange world and meeting new friends, eventually reuniting with his friend, Shefra, as he discovers the truth behind his existence. The plot mainly focuses on Yura as a key to make everyone's wish be granted as explained by a character later introduced in the game. Despite this, the game is balanced by the comical intervals the other characters bring, changing the dynamics and speculations of the game if referring to the cover.

The game will consist of 100+ characters (currently 118 playable characters and 26 non-playables) based on the forums members who will live together in a village (castle) of ARM to Hand as their base. With the item synthesizing system inspired by the item synthesizing systems in GUST games, and playful skits and conversations, ARM promises a lengthy gameplay, and fun atmosphere and environment. Another bonus comes with voice-acting during battle scenes and other important skits relative to the main storyline.

Click here for the list of characters in the game.

Features

Map

Players may explore the field, town, and other areas with the common set of commands with the arrow keys (WASD). Yura is leader by default, followed by a long caterpillar of characters. You can save in the World Map anytime, and find Save Points in dungeons and towns which restore your health. Each town presents the NPC's, shopkeepers, items, armor, and weaponry; and a bonus of a goddess statue planted in the town's square; later revealed as to why. There is always an event happening in each town as characters often make their appearance.

Tankentai Side-View Battle System

The game uses Tankentai Side-View with the ATB (Active time battle) system. The turn order is determined by the action bar of each characters. Once the bar gets full, the character gets a turn. The speed of the bar is influenced by the character's Speed status. More information about it here.

Menu

The Menu basically looks like this. It shows the character's eyes, names, elements, and overdrive gauge.

Elements

Characters are allowed to have two elements in their slots. Elements play a major role for all players even those with a lacking sense of charisma. The spells are universal, characters with the same element will obtain the same spells, but their power may differ depending on their Spirit. Support and Healing spells are distributed differently to all characters as it is not a fully accessible element. The element which dominates over all stated below is Almighty, which is a combination of all the elements.

Neutral - No representation. You have no elemental affinity or have neither in particular. You have a human-average resistance to spell casting, if not slightly above to withstand them.

Support & Healing - No representation. These spells are randomly distributed to characters. Healing and supportive magic is very handy when dealing with tough opponents. Be sure to have one or two supporters with you!

Earth - Represented as rock. This element is hefty and rumbles the earth itself. Summons and calls for earthquakes and spikes to stab and throw opponents off balance. Down to the earth and balanced, they can even withstand the toughest of winds.

Fire - Represented as a flickering flame. This element manipulates the air to conduct fire, then releases it in heat waves. This element is very explosive and knowledgeably powerful, it can even make the strongest of solids into liquids, depending on its components.

Wind - Represented as a green whirlwind. This element manipulates the air to backlash their opponents, it may even cause confusion. Depending on the caster's level of efficiency, they can even summon a tornado, wiping the enemies side clean.

Water - Represented as a bubble. This element calls upon the depths of. They can summon a barrage of water at will to drown their opponents even if they're miles away from such bodies. They have no control over the water's temperature.

Ice - Represented as an ice cube. This element are those who can handle the cold weather through their hands or extended arm. They have the ability to freeze a small ground or atmosphere by mere concentration.

Lightning - Represented as a ball of purple electricity surrounded by white cackle. This element has high chance of paralysis and stun, having plentiful area of effect spells which deals damage to the enemies lines.

Light - Represented as a flicker of yellow and white light. This element is the essence of purity and holiness. This has blinding effects and purifying spectrum.

Dark - Represented as a black and purple swirl. This element refers to shadows and silence techniques which sabotages the foes eyesight and sometimes movement.

Spirit - Represented as a black swirl. This element uses the caster's body as a medium to bring forth spiritual energy to throw at their opponents. Depending on the caster's spiritual level determines the elements style of execution to the player's fascination.

Surprise - Represented as a yellow star encased in a orange circle. This element is comical and random, bringing forth the most randomizing things onto the battle field from stars to exploding treasure chests. Characters who yield to this element have a comical sense of humor, tricksters, and random, coming from one's imagination.

Almighty - Represented as a white feather. All of elements comprised into one. This also includes healing and support arts. Characters who possess this element have all the magical skill set as well as combo magic. Only one character has this element.

Day-Night System

ARM Game uses KGC's DayNight script to make time pass naturally in the game. Despite that, the passing of time won't affect anything in the storyline at all. There are 4 phases which are Morning, Noon, Evening, and Night. Shops and other houses are usually open at noon or in the evening, but most are closed during the night or in the morning. The days in Sol Lyafre, the game's world setting, are quite unique. There are 14 days in a week, and 2 weeks in a month, consisting of 28 days per month.

The days are in order:
Juklizdyya,
Clyuuedyya,
Soreidyya,
Listeadyya,
Shelanoirdyya,
Deijyadyya,
Leredyya,
Sakidyya,
Salapatordyya,
Somadyya,
Sasyadyya,
Hymmnodyya,
Filamedyya,
Yurishidyya.

Large Party Changer

Yanfly's common event menu and Dargor's Large Party and Party Changer scripts are used to support the above party changer scene. In the scene, characters chosen as the party member will say something as their join party phrase. The characters who are not in party will still get 50% of gained exp in battle even though they didn't participate. So it's possible to level up your characters without bringing them in party. Keep in mind that it will be very slow. The best way to train your favorite character is to use them in fights yourself.

Status Distribution and CP System

From KGC's Attribute Point Stat Distribution and Skill CP System Scripts. (http://f44.aaa.livedoor.jp/~ytomy/tkool/rpgtech/) It basically lets you distribute status manually to each characters after they level up. And the CP system copies the CP system from some games like Valkyrie Profile or Star Ocean, etc. Where you can only use skills after equipping it, and the amount of CP being your capacity of the skills you can equip. For more info, click here (login required).

Item Synthesis

Done with Yanfly's Actor Item Synthesis Script.

From Yanfly's Script explanation:
This item synthesis script is influenced after Gust RPG's famous synthesizing systems. To synthesize an item, one would need a recipe and the required actor in your party. Different actors can yield different outcomes, but they all possess and use the same ingredients.

From a Pepen's explanation:
This script is so awesome. It lets you synth items. In ARM Game, not all characters can synthesize items. These few people who are able to do so are called Melders. The same recipe may result in a totally different item when used by a specific Melder.

Controls

Arrow Keys - Controls Character

0 (Zero)/X - Opens up Menu/Cancel

Q & W - Switches between characters in the main menu (ie.Equip or shop window)

Z/Spacebar/Enter - Confirm

A - (when pressed in the status screen) Opens stat allocation window/(when pressed in the skills screen) Opens skill CP window

Welcome to the Pepen Kingdom.

Welcome to the first post of this blog. If you're wondering what will be here in the future, it will only contain my random ramblings in creating the ARM Game. In other words, "My ARM Game Diary".

What is an ARM Game, you say? It is a game made by the people of A Reyvateil's Melody forum. A community dedicated to the Ar tonelico series. The full title of the game is "Ar tonelico: A Reyvateil's Melody ~世界ノ願望を満たすように少女は詩を謳う~ (The girl singing songs with purpose of the fulfillment of everyone's wishes)". Long title is long.

Do not expect to find accurate news of the actual development or download links here. As I said, it'll only be a diary.

Now, I'll introduce myself.

I am Trass. I love pepens. Pepens are penguin-like creatures that appeared in Ar tonelico II. Due to my love for them, I've developed an obsession over penguins. I call every penguins Pepen. Though there some classifications of being called Pepen. They have to be cute, and Pepen, and cute. Penguins like the ones from the Madagaskar movie don't deserve to be called Pepens. They're not cute at all. I don't like them. The Pepens are the most amazing lifeforms in the whole universe. You should like them. Love them. Worship them. I order you to. Because, without Pepens, the world wouldn't be like this. If it weren't for Pepens, humans would still be living in caves naked by now. Since ancient times, people have been chosen to make contracts with them in order to--

Wait, what am I talking about?

Oh yeah. About Pepens... they're- /thrown into the nearest river

Err... Ahem.
Anyway, ARM Game is the game which all of us put our emotions, bonds, and feelings into (At least I like to think that way). The game consisted of the characters made by all of the members in the ARM forum which are meant to be the representation of themselves in the game. I'd like to write an in-depth explanation of the game's features and gameplays. but my Master is 'Lazy' and since I have to obey my Master, I need to-

Ah that's right. Besides being a penguin-lover, I'm also ein Sklave. Sklave means 'Slave' in German. Don't ask why it's German. My Master is the almighty 'Lazy'. Who has the ability to defeat an army of full armed roris all by himself. He also has the ability to understand lots of languages, and lots of fun and nonsense. He has lots of tentacles, and they're disposable. I tried some before, and it was so delicious (In fact, I could sneak in right now and steal some from his fridge... Oh wait, he'll kill me). Even in takoyaki form, it's still delicious. And the way they jiggle-

Wait, I'm supposed to talk about ARM Game here.
Okay... I'll start actually talking about what ARM Game really is in the next post. This post turned out to be pretty nonsense and pointless. So if you don't want to waste your time, don't even bother reading all of this... Then again, if you're reading this, that means you've read through the whole blabberings above and there's nothing more for you to read, so I'm not gonna care.

Well, I guess that's it for the introduction. What? You say you've wasted your time reading this? Of course you didn't. You got to finally learn the amazingness of the world of Pepens. yeah seriously.
